As part of its mission, Tab-bu foundation reached out to pupils of Yumba Special School, a school for mentally retarded children located in the Northern Region of Ghana by way of an activity-parked party on the 6th of October, 2014. ‘Yumba’ is a dagbanli word which means ‘ Love them’.The school, located along the salaga road, has a student population of about 125 with classes ranging from primary one through to a vocational training stage. The ceremony was dubbed ‘Eid party’ as it was organized during the period of Eid-ul-Adha, an Islamic festival. Sack races for both male and female categories, musical chairs and dancing competitions formed part of activities that marked the day. The occasion sought to enhance their social development and give the pupils a sense of belonging in the society. They were treated to some snacks and lunch, and also socialized with the Tab-bu team. Awards were later presented to winners of various competitions. The assistant head teacher, madam Mildred ….remarked that it was a rare treat for the pupils and they really loved to be part of such activities. Plain A4 sheets, crayons and pencils among other stationery were donated to the school. The head teacher and staff of the school expressed their profound gratitude to Tab-bu foundation and said they looked forward to more of such kind gestures.
