On March 22nd, Tab-bu Foundation embarked on an educational outreach to mark our 4th anniversary. We reached out to a deprived basic school in ‘Cheshe’, a small farming community, located around Datoyili in the Tamale Metropolis, in the Northern Region of Ghana. Cheshe RC Junior High School is a government school that rarely receives its quota of government aid in the form of school supplies and infrastructure. These pictures of the school speaks volumes about its deprived nature. Despite the state of the school , the students and teachers are determined to look beyond these challenges to achieve immeasurable educational success.
Tab-bu Foundation came to their aid with educational supplies, speed mentoring and motivational speeches to help their fight for success. The students demonstrated unrelenting zeals to learn and be guided. Our selfless staff, Mr Abdul Wahab Kuziemdoo and volunteers, Mr. Hassan Kapinta and Ms. Awal Leena worked tirelessly to make this program a success.
Our team arrived at the school at about 9:00am and was well received by teachers and students alike. The program started after a brief meeting between the teachers and our team. During the meeting the teachers expressed their profound happiness and gratitude to Tab-bu Foundation for keeping our promise on coming to the aid of the school after our earlier visit to the school in February.
The team then moved onto the next session of the program; time with the students. The students were highly excited to have us in their classrooms to share with them our experiences.
Mr. Abdul Wahab introduced the Foundation, including the team, the vision and mission of the foundation.Mr. Hassan Amadu was given the opportunity to engage the students. He shared with the students his bigest secret in his educational life- discipline. He admonishes the students to inculcate the habit of discipline in everything they do and most importantly, in their education. He concluded by urging the students to take their studies seriously as that would be half a solution to the problem of student failure.
Mr. Abdul Wahab, took turn, to share with the students how he managed to move through the educational ladder faced with immense poverty. He shared with the students how he managed to do menial trade after school hours to support his eduction and parents. He shared with the students how one can excel in his/her education under challenging circumstances of poverty, especially in the Northern Region of Ghana.
Ms. Leena Awal was the last to engage the students. She shared with the students how it feels like for one to fail; the stigma from family and friends. How to manage such a situation and eventually get out of it. And the need for the student to be respectful. She took time, specifically for the female students to motivate them to see beyond their current challenges. She concluded by encouraging the female students to work hard and be self disciplined. Ms. Leena’s contribution was especially important because she served as a role model for the female students who otherwise scarcely interact with well-achieved women.
The next session of the program was the question and answer session. The students asked critical questions and sort advise from our team who intend provided answers and advise to them.
The team then donated books, chalk, pens, pencils, erasers among others to the school. The headmaster thanked Tab-bu Foundation and described our intervention as a milestone in the history of the school. He further explained that the educational supplies will go a long way to keep some students in school as some students often absent themselves because they lacked these materials.
Tab-bu Foundation bid a goodbye to the school and pledged our continuous support to the school. This gesture by Tab-bu Foundation is in fulfilment of our vision of invoking hope and putting smiles on the faces of the less privilege.
